i i With a quick glance, it’s easy to understand the lewd subtext in this advertisement. The caption “it’ll blow your mind away” makes it clear this isn’t just someone eating a sandwich, but a girl performing a sexual act. If you were to assign roles to the objects in this advertisement, the sandwich (aka male sex organ) would have more power than the girl, the actual human being in the picture. This ad sends the message that this kind of sexual act is not only okay, but encouraged in society. If this message is deemed “okay,” then who is to say it’s acceptable if the girl says no? Advertisements like this contribute to violence against women in particular by giving men power over women because it makes it seem like women have no control or that no does not necessarily mean no.
i i -In this ad the men are acting like gang rapists and the woman is the victim -This ad is sending the message that women are easily taken advantage of and are easy targets by the number of men that are surrounding her and the position of the man on top of the her -Also it is showing that women want to be manhandled by the provocative outfit and the bright red lipstick that she is wearing -This could contribute to violence towards women because if it is published it should be okay and it encourages the act of gang raping -Also it portrays attractive men acting against the victim and holding her hand down which shows that if you want to get a girl, it is okay to use force -Additionally, it is not clear what this ad is advertising. Maybe the shoes the woman is wearing, but it is unclear. -Dear Dolce & Gabana: This ad is very offensive towards women.
